Development of a technique for designing adaptive and multifunctional artificial hands.

Objective

The main objective of the proposed project is the development of a new technique for designing artificial hands for prosthetic use. The technique will be implemented in a software pachage to be used as a CAD tool. The effectiveness of this CAD tool is going to be demonsrated by designing a laboratory prototype of an artificial adaptive and multifunctional hand for prosthetic use . Altough the primary use is for prosthetic purposes the basic principles underlying the technique to be developed can be used also for the design of dextrous hands for industrial purposes as well.

The technological problems to be solved concern integration of existing technologies (sensing, electronic control, motor drives etc.) so that the artificial hand is going to be adaptive, multifunctional, user friendly, to be of sufficiently small weight and size, its manufacturing and maintenance to be easy, to be aesthetically acceptable and of relatively low cost. The major problems have to do with compact design and use of a suitable light material.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
