A methodology for the run-in of pressure dies

Objective

The tools produced were: 1. A Castbook: an electronical 'book'with background knowledge on provessoptimisation, material testing and description of casting errors respectively solving reocurrence of same
2. Inicast: pressure die casting engineering rules and calculation of machineparameters
3. HeatCool: thermal-engineering calculations and design rules for temperingsystems
4 FuzzyCast: optimisation method of the pressure die casting process itself after first delivery of the die.

This Soft-Ware is available on CD-Rom through either:

A the Steinbeis Transferzentrum Arbeitsgemeinschaft Metallgusz in Aalen - Beethovenstrasse 1 Fax 00-49-7361-9274-99
B Centrum for Produktietechniek in 5201 CZ 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, PO Box 70577 and the fax no. 00-31-73-6441949.

The innovative aspects of this project resulted in:

1. Application of mathematical concepts like fuzzy-logic to describe the influences of process parameter alterations on quality characteristics.
2. Utilizing thermo-elements build into the dies in order to unambiguously identify the 3D temperature patterns in the die
3. Low-cost data aquisition equipment to enable reproduction of process parameters after delay times and change of peripheral equipment or casting machines.

The tools are developed to be used by:
a. foundries,
b. die makers and
c. die designers
