Objective
The project will investigate and prototype a design integrating strategy to optimise manufacture of complex close-tolerance roll formed components. The empirical nature of the industry limits the application of the process through lack of precise and predictable tolerancing.
Inherent benefits of roll forming include, low tool costs and high output and near zero waste. This integrating strategy would add several important innovations.
1) High degree of predictability in tolerancing.
2) Use of different and new materials to create high performance products. 3) Opportunity to create new high performance components.
4) Wider application in the following sectors, construction, aerospace, electrical, domestic, and automotive.
5) Short lead times and competitive edge through use of CAD/CAM and tool change rapidity.
Many EU roll-forming industries are under attack from non-EU countries which have lower labour costs. A successful outcome of this project will meet that threat.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
