Objectif
The purpose of this project is to demonstrate that the management of fuel on board a merchant ship can be performed using micro computer and local networks enabling a better analysis of main propulsion plant and boiler consumption. In case of success, a global management of works on board a vessel will lead to more important fuel savings. The project will analyse the following functions : a) fueling and transfer - Trim Optimization- b) treatment and purification-c) supply to the main engine and the boiler. It is expected to achieve a 400 toe/year ship energy saving (5% of the conventional consumption).
Local computing networks will be tested in a hostile marine environment,in view of the global automatization of the vessel by distributed micro-computing systems connected and conversing together. The information is conveyed by local networks. The local network will connect the engine room, the boiler, the wheelhouse and other monitoring centers where the computer desks are installed and from where it is possible to receive the information or to give instructions. Three principal functions will be controlled : a)fueling/transfer/trim adjustment with appropriate ballasting b)fuel treatment
c)supply to main engine and boiler.
d)optimization of the "assiette" of the tanker had been added.
Each function will be managed taking into account the following principles:
- A synoptic diagram representing each function will be display on video screen on which the working parameters (temperature, pressure,levels. . . )are produced
- A "monitoring view" will be also display on a video screen from which it will be possible to control the different auxiliaries ( motors and valves),to adjust the regulation thresholds.
On this monitoring view the working conditions of remote auxiliaries will be given as well as the histogram of main parameters. Datas such as fuel characteristics, volume in tanks etc will be also given.
For the demonstration vessel currently consuming 30 TONS/day,travelling 280 days/year, it is expected to realize an energy saving of about 400 TOE/year.
With a global management of "works" on board a vessel, a 10% energy saving (840 TOE/year) is expected. The overcost for a global information processing is estimated at 20 mio FF (without taxes). The payback time for this solution is estimated at 5,7 years.
