Objective
SUMMARY This research project is concerned with the evaluation and development of strategies for transitions towards sustainable households. It will apply and futher develop the Dutch 'sustainable washing' methodology to three household functions in five countries.
The main Results will be:
- case examples of imaginative scenarios, endorsed by a range of social partners, for the fulfilment of functions of the sustainable household; these scenarios will be subject to environmental assessment, economic analysis and consumer acceptance analysis.
- comparison of cultural and structural aspects of the scenarios and assessments across the European countries taking part in the study.
- a tested methodology which enables companies, governmental policy organizations and ngo's to carry out their own analyses of sustainable functions; the methodology will include scenario-building, the use of industry-consumer-government focus groups and methods of assessment of sustainable futures.
The study will have clear policy relevance for local, national and European-level governments in devising regulatory, support and other schemes to encourage greater sustainability.
