CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PHYSIOLOGICAL STATUS OF FOREST TREES INFLUENCED BY AIR POLLUTANTS

Ziel

CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PHYSIOLOGY OF FOREST TREES DAMAGED BY AIR POLLUTANTS. THE ALTERATION OF THE PLANT METABOLISM DUE TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCE COMPARED WITH NOT INJURED TREES SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.

THE PROJECT IS DIVIDED INTO 4 MAIN POINTS:

1. ADAPTATION OF BIOCHEMICAL TESTS TO THE NEW PLANT MATERIAL

2. INVESTIGATIONS OF THE PLANT WATER RELATIONS

A. WATER POTENTIAL, OSMOTIC POTENTIAL

B. CONCENTRATIONS OF SOLUBLE SUGARS, PROTEINS AND THE AMINO ACID PROLIN IN THE LEAVES

C. DRY AND FRESH WEIGHTS

3. CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PHOTOSYNTHETIC APPARATUS

A. MEASUREMENTS OF THE CO2 EXCHANGES AND TRANSPIRATION

B. BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS: CONTENT OF PIGMENTS, STARCH AND IMPORTANT IONS

C. KEY ENZYMES: RUBP-CARBOXYLASE, CYTOCHOME F, GLUTAMIN SYNTHETASE, CATALASE AND PEROXIDASE

4. MORPHOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF LEAF, SHOOT AND ROOT (INCLUSIVE ELECTRON MICROSCOPY)
