Conditions of success for environmental policy : the effectiveness of instruments in the view of European enterprises

Objective

To identify the conditions and options for a preventive environmental policy which allows pro-active environmental management in European enterprises.

The research project is based on a comparative analysis of successful cases of environmental management in large and medium-sized European enterprises.

The study consists of the following work elements :

1. a survey and analysis of the current state of the art of research, concentrating upon case studies of environmental management in enterprises and the role of public environmental policies;

2. an in depth reconstruction of some successful company case studies analysing their approach to environmental management;

3. a theoretical synthesis the dynamic of the development of environmental management and its interplay with public environmental policy;

4. an identification of the basis for preventive environmental policy, in the context of pro-active environmental management.

The project has been selcted for additional funding under the PECO Programme. The project includes teams from Latvia and Poland.
