Product policy in support of environmental policy

Objective

To make an inventory of environmentally oriented product-policy instruments, evaluate selected product policy instruments and develop strategic proposals for their use.

The research project is divided into four:

i) the establishment of an inventory of product policy instruments. The inventory covers all EU-member states and includes areas of regional as well as Community responsibility;

ii) in-depth studies of selected product policy instruments with significant environmental orientation;

iii) an evaluation of these product policy instruments with respect to their effectiveness in increasing the market share of environmentally-oriented products and in reducing demand for environmentally harmful products;

iv) the development of strategic proposals for the optimization of the use of product policy instruments.
