Life history traits of the northwest european flora: a database

Objectif

The LEDA Trait base program aims at a WWW-based database with a complete species-trait matrix for the northwest European flora, i.e. ca. 3000 species, open for further expansion to the whole European flora and including e-networking procedures to continue data adding after the termination of the project. The traits are related to the persistence, regeneration and mobility of plants. They will be compiled from an extensive literature review, from unpublished data and field experiments. The user can generate select species-trait matrices for local, regional, or national species pools which can be analysed with data mining tools. Case studies from several EU countries on the habitat, landscape, and national scale will demonstrate applicability. The database will allow putting species in a comparative context based on their trait attributes to extract general principles about functional plant-environment relations.
