New approach to assessment and reduction of health risk and environmental impact originating from TENORM according to requirements of EU Directive 96/29/Euratom

Objective

The main aim of the project is to introduce a new holistic methodology related to assessment and reduction of health risk and environmental impact caused by technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive materials (TENORM). The project provides an overview and assessment of the all TENORM and current practices and regulation in Central and Eastern European Countries in comparison to the situation in EU countries.
As a result of this work the harmonisation of national rules and adoption towards the Council Directive 96/29/Euroatom will be supported in EU- and CEEC countries.
This project is also focused to harmonisation and improvement of regulation and mitigation methods according to TENORM. Finally, guidance and its application will be developed to meet requirements of EU Standards. Results will also be presented in a GIS database via Internet.
