Catalytic assymetric synthesis of aziridines and its application in synthesis

Objective

The aim of the proposal is to try and develop a new catalytic cycle for the asymmetric synthesis of aziridines from electron rich and deficient alkenes. Aziridines are important because the products are versatile synthetic intermediates in the synthesis of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals and because of the growing demand to produce enantiomerically pure compounds. The key to our strategy involves designing novel catalytic processes which exploit the weak nature of N-heteroatom bonds and use metal salts as catalysts to control the process. As reactions will only occur on metal templates, correct juxtaposition of chiral ligands around the metal should allow the development of an enantioselective process. We also wish to exploit this chemistry in the synthesis of epibatidine - a compound with potential for treament of mental illnesses.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
