Objective The objective is to set up and put on work a measurement system for collecting and analysing all the failures together with improvements to the Development Process towards better quality. Presently, the Software Development Process is well stabilised and organised, despite the absence of a formal description of it: it is a typical waterfall model, with an initial functional analysis (producing a Functional Specification document), a technical and a detailed design (recently producing reference documents), the coding activity and the testing activity.THE EXPERIMENTThe experiment will have the following aims:- to set up and put on work a measurement system for collecting and analysing all the failures and the change requests coming both during the development activities and after the release.- to introduce within the development process activities for preventing errors and for discovering them as early as possible: process normalisation using analysis and development methodology, coding standards toward a good programming style and systematic functional testing practices introducing a testing methodology for any environment.- to experiment in a controlled way with the above methodologies on a real project, and evaluating quantitatively the obtained advantages with respect to the past activities. The baseline project, from the technical point of view is a typical one in a system with DB access and TP monitor, it will be run at branch level of the bank. The size of developing unit is about 70 full time staff.EXPECTED IMPACT AND EXPERIENCEThe experiment will have the following aims:- to set up and put on work a measurement system for collecting and analysing all the failures and the change requests coming both during the development activities and after the release.- to introduce within the development process activities for preventing errors and for discovering them as early as possible: process normalisation using analysis and development methodology, coding standards toward a good programming style and systematic functional testing practices introducing a testing methodology for any environment.- to experiment in a controlled way with the above methodologies on a real project, and evaluating quantitatively the obtained advantages in respect to the past activities. The baseline project, from the technical point of view is a typical one in a system with DB access and TP monitor, it will be run at branch level of the bank. The size of developing unit is about 70 full time staff.
