Improved roughing with integrated sensor technology

Objectif

The European footwear industry is facing fierce competition within an aggressive global business environment. A serious drain on profitability, amounting to 1% of turnover, is a quality problem associated with the sole attachment process. Further, the traditional process poses a serious health and safety risk to the workforce. IRIST addresses these issues by proposing a new process for surface treatment of leather and synthetic materials which will give a major improvement in quality through improved surface preparation for both adhesive bonded and direct injection moulded constructions. These jointly account for about 80% of European footwear production. This will result in savings estimated at 125M Euros per annum arising from reduced warranty and scrap costs for the predominantly SME based European industry. Significant benefits will arise for the workforce through an improved working environment and an enhanced level of transferable skills.
