Research and development of a new engine for ultra-light powered aircraft (ULM)

Objetivo

In France, a new regulation limits the flight weight of the ultra-light powered aircraft (ULM) to 450 kg. This regulation applied in France since April 1999 should become soon a regulation at the European level, improving flying security. The problem is that today these little aeroplanes always overpass this weight reaching often more than 500 kg. In order to respect this future regulation, our projects intends to design and develop an innovative engine 50 kg (instead of 80 kg) permitting to reduce the total flying weight of the SCUB aero plane (belonging to the category of ULM) of about 40 kg. This weight reduction of the SCUB will permit to reach following objectives :- increase its flight autonomy + 5 hours- transport 2 persons with a shaft (1 pilot, 1 doctor and 1 patient on the shaft)- transport heavy people (+100 kg)- respect the regulation as ULMs are especially used in public service transportation, medical service, agricultural spraying, tourism ... the consortium intends to develop a long-term annual production of 100 aero planes representing an annual turnover of 6 800 000 Euro.
