Metrology in support to precautionary sciences and sustainable development policies

Objective

Metrology is key to sustainable industrial growth and to respond to citizens needs for successful implementation of environmental, health and safety policies. Consideration of the whole information chain relevance, from traceability of data up to the communication of results, raises challenges that METROPOLIS proposes to tackle. It will improve and disseminate fundamental knowledge and practical experiences in metrology, identify gaps and areas for improvement by collaborative effort. Representing 17 nationalities it can speed up transfer of the most advanced knowledge. It will hold training seminars throughout Europe, extensively use Internet-based networking to share information and will develop and freely disseminate a series of application guides to help industry and laboratories. A major Internet-base virtual conference will rollout the deliverables. Plans for evolution of the Network into a future Network of Excellence will be studied.
