Water wave non-linear dynamics and wave-shear flow interaction in the ocean

CORDIS provides links to public deliverables and publications of HORIZON projects.

Links to deliverables and publications from FP7 projects, as well as links to some specific result types such as dataset and software, are dynamically retrieved from OpenAIRE .

Exploitable results

The principal aim of the project was to investigate the fundamental mechanisms of water wave non-linear dynamics and wave-shear flow interactions, and focused mainly on those physical processes and phenomena considered to be the most important in the context of wind wave dynamics. The project united the complementary efforts of the research groups and focused on the following specific key issues: -The role of wind induced shear currents in wind wave dynamics. -Vorticity: generation, dynamics and role in wave field evolution. -Basic mechanisms of wave generation by wind. -Three-dimensional aspects of non-linear wave dynamics. -Coastal wave dynamics. The obtained results clarify the fundamental mechanisms of wave and wave-shear flow interactions and their role in ocean dynamics. These results could be applied for development of models of atmosphere-ocean interaction, wind-wave dynamics, models of the sea-surface for remote sensing and to different aspects of coastal zone dynamics.
