This project aimed at the establishment of a network of institutions from the EC and the States of the Former Soviet Union, with common interests in teaching and research in the Agro-Food area. The network included 10 institutions from 10 EC countries, 1 institution from Belarus, 2 institutions from Russia, 2 from the Ukraine and 1 from Uzbekistan.
Agro-Food is certainly a very important sector in the different countries of the EC and Eastern Europe; its development has also a direct impact on the modernisation of agriculture.
The project allowed the establishment of adequate communication channels between the 16 institutions involved; the institutions from the Former Soviet Union were provided, for that purpose, with adequate offices with modern communication equipment.
One working party was set up in order to study, in detail, the areas of Food Processing Technology and Food Quality which are of prime importance to all the participating institutions; recommendations on improvements to be made on student training, laboratory equipment ongoing and future research, staff training and interactions with industry, were given. A programme of short visits to EC institutions of staff from the Eastern European institutions was carried out, including a total of 6 visits.
