An Open Personalised Electronic Information Commerce System

Objetivo

Professional users of information demand added-value services like personalisation, evaluation, categorisation and combination of multimedia information at the Internet. OPELIX aims at stimulating the appearance of a new type of information business on the Internet, which will offer the services requested. These new businesses will be provided with tools to create personalised information offerings, to deal with copyright issues, quality of service and with payment schemes that apply to this type of business.

The OPELIX tools will be validated in two representative case studies. The most important development of OPELIX will be a language for describing business offers based on XML and its usage in an open information commerce scenario. The experience we gain with this language and the tools will be disseminated to the appropriate standardisation bodies. In addition, the results will be disseminated widely to the potential new SMEs at the Internet

Objectives:
Professional users of information demand added-value services like personalisation, evaluation, categorisation and combination of multimedia information at the Internet. Currently, there is no business model for this type of information commerce. The objective of the OPELIX project is to develop such a business model by providing tools to create personalised information offerings taking into account the copyright protection applying to that information, certification of the data, a timely delivery of the data, and with payment schemes that apply to this type of business.

We will validate our business model on two pilot case studies of enhanced information commerce businesses. The business models and toolsets will be disseminated widely to interested SMEs and the business offer language will be proposed to standardisation bodies. In this way, we will stimulate the creation of information commerce businesses on the Internet that will mediate between multiple content owners and professional users.

Work description:
The two main aims of the OPELIX project are the development of the OPELIX toolset based on a highly innovative "business offer description language", and the dissemination and standardisation works of the consortium. The business offer language provides models to define which information services are offered by a business or requested by a user. Mobile agents can interpret such a business offer description, and search for the requested information. When a match between an offer agent and request agent has been established, they can negotiate to come to a business contract. The delivery of the information will be done by a push system.

We will use as much as possible existing standards and products. The rest of the development work is carried out as a classical software engineering project, with the phases: User requirements, System design and System implementation. To include feedback of the users, we will have two versions of the OPELIX toolset. The first prototype will be used by the users to implement the information offer, with the underlying constraints with respect to copyright, delivery, and payment.

Our goals with respect to the case studies are the following: an increase in the sales of the information vendors, an increase in the number of client subscribed to their services, and an increase in user satisfaction. OPELIX will have a high profile dissemination program, in which we will distribute the results to possible interested information vendors via free licences, a web site and a workshop. The resulting "business offer description language" will also be disseminated to the appropriate standardisation bodies

Milestones:
The definition of the business offer description language, based on XML, will be ready in Month 7 of the project.
In Month 23 the final version of an interpreter for this language, and the supporting tools is foreseen.
In Month 26, an assessment of the language and the toolset will be ready.
The project outcomes are covering feasibility evaluations of enabling technologies for future development of SDR terminal architectures. These outcomes can be classified in two main areas: 1/Optimisation of Innovative SDR concept implementation for future SDR Wireless terminals: PASTORAL has defined the SDR-CU concept applied to wireless terminals. This allows transparant re-configurability for the end user at all layers of the system. The Innovative aspect within PASTORAL project has been the verification of re-configurability concept at physical layer.2/ Analyse of re-configurable signal processing and computation hardware: Within PASTORAL it has been tested advanced co-simulation tools for virtual prototyping of a SDR baseband modem, based on new modelling standard such as SystemC. Then system on chip technologies design methodology has been specified in order to include IP blocks within SDR baseband design
