Deliverables

An advanced Course on Open Access to Digital Libraries was produced which aimed at illustrating the possibilities provided by the new generation of digital libraries, in terms of new types of content and new functionality and teaching how to create and maintain a new generation digital library. The Course has the following structure: (i) tutorial (part 1) Methodology for building a digital library; (ii) introduction to the Scholnet system; (iii) demo of the Scholnet system; (iv) training on how to use a Scholnet digital library; (v) tutorial (part 2) - Methodology for digital library set-up and maintenance; (vi) case studies. System documentation and hard paper copies of the tutorial slides were made available to the participants.
An advanced Course on self-publishing was produced which aimed at facilitating moving from the current centralized, discrete publishing model, to a distributed, continuous, self-publishing model. The Course has the following structure: (i) introduction to digital libraries; (ii) introduction to Dublin Core Metadata Set; (iii) introduction to ETRDL digital library system; (iv) demo of the ETRDL system; (v) experimentation with the ETRDL system; (vi) case studies. System documentation and hard paper copies of the tutorial slides were made available to the participants.
An advanced Course on Digital Library Based Collaboration was produced which aimed at presenting digital library technologies, which enable collaboration between digital library patrons. The Course has the following structure: (i) introduction to digital libraries; (ii) introduction to the Cyclades digital library system; (iii) the mediator service; (iv) the search & browse service; (v) the access service; (vi) the collection service; (vii) the personalization service; (viii) the recommendation service; (ix) the collaborative work service; (x) demo of the Cyclades system; (xi) experimentation with the Cyclades system. System documentation and hard paper copies of the tutorial slides were made available to the participants.
An advanced Course on Building and Managing an A/V Digital Library was produced which aimed at providing a theoretical and experimental background on the techniques and the methodologies for the organization, creation, and management of an A/V digital library. The Course has the following structure: (i) introduction to A/V digital libraries; (ii) how to design and build an A/V digital library; (iii) A practical example: the creation of a documentary film digital library; (iv) metadata models for A/V digital libraries; (v) manual indexing of A/V documents; (vi) demonstration of an a/V digital library; (vii) training on the use of an A/V digital library; (viii) manual indexing A/V documents with the ECHO metadata editor; (ix) training on indexing A/V documents. System documentation and hard paper copies of the tutorial slides were made available to the participants.
