Air conditioning by stainless steel pipe and clean exchanger for food products

Objectif

Agro-food industries use air as a transfer support for matter and heat exchange s in various operations such as refrigeration, deep-freezing, drying, cooking, but maturation, steaming and ripening as well. Whatever the objectives, the nat ure of transfer, the product or the process, air is, in these operations, a tec hnological factor the mastering of which is a condition of the quality of the p rocessed fmal product and the economic efficiency of the action undertaken. So most unitary operations in agro-food industries have to be carried out in co ntact with air the characteristics of which temperature, hygrometry, compositio n, suspended matters... have to be in conformity with quality requirements. Hyg rometry in a preservation room, temperature and bacteriological contamination i n a cutting room or in a a clean room dedicated to packaging are but a few exam ples to illusttate the necessity of a perfect mastering of air quality that bec omes an environment factor of the process. Those constraints orientated ente rprises toward new types of air treatment boxes equiped with still tubes exchan gers (thought to be cleanable more easily) and toward techniques of humidificat ion using atomisation. Despite progress in this domain enterprises have to face a lack of important information on this technological level. The project is to develop a tool for an atmosphere conditionning device equiped with series o f thermic exchangers made with still tubes to be used in agro-food. Some trials have already proved successful but a scientific approach for proper research a nd development of the device revealed to be necessary. Besides this project eff ectively meets Joule Program objectives through its areas 2.2.1.A.1.1 intensif ication of process for heat exchangers (including aspects dealing with dirtying , reactors, separation process, ovens and other basic opertaions). The mark et survey proved the existence of a potential market that is, out of 20,000 Eur opean agro-food enterprises, 3,000 seemed to be our target. Out of those 3,000 agro-food industries, Modial Frigo safely decided about a target of 500 which i nvest every year between 50 to 60 MFFR in air conditionning (production and dis tribution sectors). The various steps of the Project: * Definition of the needs and material to design * R&D: - Hygiene, Thermie, Aerolic, Hygrom etry - Optimisation - Technical analysis for regulation control and for m onitoring and supervision - Synthesis * Industrial stage: - Technical specification - Designing of the pilot device - Validation of industrial platform (technological center) - Testing and trials: in 3 agro-food industr ies Transnational Partnership: 10 Industries + 6 Research Centers from 5 Eur opean countries (FR, UK, Fl, IT, GR). Dissemination: At the end of the proj ect, Mondial Frigo will represent the partners at the IPA show in October 2000 when the commercialisation phase will start.
