Objective
The objectives of this project are :
- To develop a computer code as a design tool for wind turbine loading and fatigue. The design tool will meet the requirements of both the manufacturing industry and the Classification Societies.
- To enable the user of the design tool to evaluate, in a single step, the complete specification of fatigue and extreme loads experienced by a wind turbine.
- To validate the code against measured data from the WindMaster 750kW wind turbine.
- To provide the code in a user-friendly form for use on PC and work station computer hardware.
During the last decade the ability to predict the behaviour of wind turbines has progressed enormously. This situation has resulted from the improvement of computer models and the parallel validation of the models against measured data. For such models now to be useful to wind turbine manufacturers for design purposes, they must be transformed to user-friendly computer programs capable of providing rapid and reliable design analysis.
The analytical expertise of a commercial R and D organistaion (Garrad Hassan) will be combined with the design experience of a wind turbine manufacturer (WindMaster Nederland) and the requirements of a Classification Society (Germanischer Lloyd) to develop a design tool which is reliable, user-friendly and meets the needs of the industry.
