Directly driven wind turbine generator project

Objective



Based on the research work at a number of European research institutions and the design experience from the Nordic 400 and 1000 kW units, a design study is performed for a 500 kW wind turbine, utilizing a directly driven generator.
In parallell the Chalmers/Hoenoe research 40 kW wind turbine in rebuilt and evaluated in a directly driven generator configuration.
The goal of the activities is to form the basis for the development of a 500 kW directly driven wind turbine.

The project will be performed in the following tasks:

1 Specification for a 500 kW wind turbine generator.

2 A. Preliminary electrical design of candidate directly driven 500 kW generator. Work will be performed by

2. Choice of one type of directly driven generator.

3. Design of 500 kW directly driven wind turbine, based on Nordic 400 aerodynamic design.

4. Design, construction and evaluation of 40 kW directly driven wind turbine at Chalmers University Hoenoe test station (modification of existing test turbine).
