Comparison and harmonisation of screening and confirmatory methods for the determination of beta-agonists

Objective

The objective of this project is to develop and validate a number of new screening (functional test beta-agonists (FTBA), EIA/ractopamine&fenoterol, GC-MS) and confirmatory procedures (LC-MS-MS) for a large range of beta-agonists. The validation also comprises an intercomparison study to correlate the performance of the new procedures with currently used procedures. The work programme contains two main parts. The first part will involve the development and validation of a number of new screening (functional test beta-agonists (FTBA), EIA/ractopamine&fenoterol, GC-MS) and confirmatory procedures (LC-MS-MS) for a large range of beta-agonists. In the second part, an intercomparison study will be carried out in order to validate the procedures and to determine the performance characteristics (false positive and false negative results) compared to currently used procedures.
