TESTING OF NEWLY DEVELOPED MEASURING AND INTERPRETATION TECHNIQUES FORTHE TEM METHOD.

Objective

IMPROVEMENT OF TEM MEASURING AND INTERPRETATION TECHNIQUES

TEM PROSPECTING IS A RELATIVELY NEW DEVELOPMENT IN ORE EXPLORATION, WHICH WAS DEVELOPED IN COUNTRIES LIKE THE USSR, CANADA AND AUSTALIA.

TEM SHOWS A VERY LOW NOISE LEVEL AND IS INSENSITIVE TO TOPOGRAPHIC INFLUENCES. BOTH FEATURES HELP TO QUALIFY TEM AS A FAST AND DEEPLY PENETRATING EXPLORATION TOOL.

THE APPLICATION OF THIS TECHNIQUE, AN APPRAISAL OF THEIR ADVANTAGES IN PRACTICAL EXPLORATION IS THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT. THE WORK IN THIS PROJECT CONSISTS OF :

1) TEST MEASUREMENTS WITH THE TEM METHOD OVER SEVERAL (5-6) KNOWN ORE BODIES IN EUROPE. THE FOLLOWING DATA SHALL BE COLLECTED: DECAY CURVES OF ALL THREE SPATIAL MAGNETIC COMPONENTS. WITH A HIGHLY SENSITIVE SQUID MAGNETOMETER THE CURVES SHALL BE RECORDED TO "LATE" TIMES (0,1 TO 0,5 SECONDS AFTER THE CUT-OFF OF THE PRIMARY FIELD), WHICH CORRESPOND TO THE EARLY STAGES OF IP-EFFECTS (COMPLEX RESISTIVITY). AT SOME OF THE TEST SITES THE ELECTRIC FIELD AT THE SURFACE MAY BE REGISTERED IN ADDITION TO THE VERTICAL MAGMETIC COMPONENT IN AVAILABLE DRILL HOLES.

2) FOR THE INTERPRETATION OF THE DATA NEWLY DEVELOPED INTERPRETATION DIAGRAMS FOR SIMPLIFIED MODELS SHALL BE USED (THIN SHEET IN AIR AND IN A CONDUCTING MEDIUM).

3) SCALE MODELLING IN AN EXISTING MODEL TANK, SIMULATING THE GEOLOGICAL SETUP OF THE ORE BODY UNDER INVESTIGATION AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE AS POSSIBLE, PERMITS A COMPARISON WITH THE RESULTS OF NUMERICAL MODELLING. THE INDEPENDENT APPROACHES TO MODELLING VIA NUMERICAL METHODS AND SCALE MODELS WILL GIVE A NECESSARY AND USEFUL CHECK OF THE RESULTS OF BOTH METHODS.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
