Objective
TO BE USED IN AUTOMOTIVE GAS TURBINE. THE AIM IS TO OBTAIN HIGH RESISTANCE AGAINST THERMAL SHOCKS, DYNAMIC LOADS DURING OPERATION AND EROSION, COUPLED WITH HIGH RELIABILITY.
THE USE OF FIBRE-CERAMIC HEAT INSULATION MATERIALS WHICH COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE-MENTINOED REQUIREMENTS WILL PERMIT NEW APPROACHES IN THE DESIGN OF PROPULSION UNITS, LEADING TO IMPROVED EFFICIENCY AND RECUCED CONSUMPTION OF PRIMARY ENERGY.
THE RESARCH PROGRAMME INCLUDES:
- SELECTION OF SUITABLE BASIC MATERIALS (FIBRES, BINDERS, COATINGS);
- PREPARATION OF MOULDABLE FIBRE MIXTURES AND OF SIMPLE BASIC SAMPLES FOR SUITABILITY TESTS AND STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS;
ANALYSIS OF COATING COMPOUNDS AND DEVELOPMENT OF A COATING PROCEDURE;
MANUFACTURING A REAL PART FOR A GAS TURBINE;
OPTIMIZING THE PRODUCTION PROCESS;
TESTING THE PARTS.
THE DEVELOPMENT WORK WILL BE DONE IN FULL COLLABORATION WITH ICI MOND DIVISION, HEATH RUNCORN, CHESHIRE, UK, AS A MANUFACTURER OF CERAMIC FIBRE MATERIALS AND RWTH, AACHEN, FOR HEAT CONDUCTIVITY MEASUREMENTS.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
