Phylogenetic sequence analysis and improved diagnostic assay systems for viruses of the family reoviridae

Objective

The Reoviridae includes human pathogens & economically important darns viruses of animals that threaten the European Community. The project will focus on viruses within the genera Orb virus (egg Bluetongue virus [BTV] & African horse sickness virus), Colt virus & Seadornavirus (which include human pathogens), Aquareovirus(affecting fish) & some unassigned viruses. It will develop improved & more rapid assays for virus genus, species & cerotype, to determine relationships & identify new isolates. Assays will include RNA sequence comparisons (to identify virus genus & species) ; stereotyping assays for BTV by serology & PCR; sequence analyses &PCR assays for colt viruses, seadornaviruses & aquareoviruses. These assays will be used for diagnosis & to study epidemiology within Europe. The project will establish reference collections of viruses & reagents for diagnosis & research &will set up web sites providing up to date technical information.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
