Mechanisms of ageing in extracellular matrices (AGEING ECM)

Objectif

A major aspect of the ageing process in the human population is the loss of suppleness of extra cellular matrix tissues (such as skin, tendon, ligaments and blood vessels) and a consequential decline in the flexibility of joints, circulatory efficiency, skin integrity, etc., leads to impaired quality of life. The research proposed specifically aims to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ECM tissue ageing. Three differing hypotheses ageing =
(a) impaired turnover,
(b) accumulated injury or
(c) impaired cell signalling are tested in distinct and interlaced work packages underpinned by a cross-prograrrnne use of expertise in cell and molecular biology, biophysics and structural biology. The project aims to formulate anti-ageing strategies based on the fundamental knowledge gained.

Champ scientifique (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classe les projets avec EuroSciVoc, une taxonomie multilingue des domaines scientifiques, grâce à un processus semi-automatique basé sur des techniques TLN.
