Objective
Aim of this project is to develop energy concepts for a large scale integration and utilisation of the renewable energies solar energy and biomass in small and medium sized cities. This will be done exemplary for three European cities, which differ in their style and traditional conditions as well as due to different climnatic conditions. The concept will cover commercial parts of the cities as well as sensitive historical and new parts of the cities. New architectural features such as bioclimatic architecture will be integrated with special care concerning the architectural sound of existing historical parts of the cities to reach maximum integration of renewable sources in the present energy demand structure.
The ultimate goal will be to identify parts of the cities as "zero emission islands" on the basis of the structure of the present energy consumption, future energy demand and architectural conditions. Technical concepts and realisable financing schemes will show a realistic way, how small and medium sized towns can play an active role in developing their town as a zero emission town.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
