Objective
The central objective of this project is to develop a new blast furnace process route able to operate with very low CO2-emissions, based on drastically reduced consumption of carbon containing input materials.
The programme initially will cover a period of 5 years, starting with mathematical modelling and laboratory as well as technical scale investigations, which are necessary to get a suitable process concept for a CO2 reduced iron-making process. The results of that work are basis for small scale blast furnace tests which will give the first experimentally proven data for the CO2 reduction potential of the new process as well as process data for a technical process evaluation.
The results shall lead to the selection and the base preparatory work for the large size pilot demonstration unit for the new CO2 reduced iron-making process, which is objective of a future project.
