NEW ZEOLITE-BASED SHAPE-SELECTIVE CATALYSTS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF SPECIALITY CHEMICALS FROM NATURAL FEEDSTOCKS VIA CO-METATHESIS

CO-METATHESIS OF NATURALLY AVAILABLE AND RENEWABLE FEEDSTOCKS AS FATA, FATTY ACID ESTERS AND DERIVED PRODUCTS WITH LIGHT OLEFINS FROM PETROCHEMICAL ORIGIN WILL BE USED TO PRODUCE CATALYTICALLY A WHOLE FAMILY OF SPECIALLY CHEMICALS, WHICH VIA OTHER ROUTES CANNOT AS EASILY BE MADE OR CANNOT BE MADE AT ALL.TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS IN AN ECONOMIC AND COMPETITIVE WAY, MORE ACTIVE, SELCTIVE AND CHEAPER CATALYSTS THAN THE PRESENTLY USED ONES, MUST BE DEVELOPED. ONCE THESE CATALYSTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR A FEW VERY SPECIFIC CO-METATHESIS REACTIONS, THEY WILL BE SUITABLE FOR PROCESS DEVELOPMENT IN A WHOLE RANGE OF CONVERSIONS.
THE FUNDAMENTAL KNOWLEDGE ON WHICH CAN BE BUILD TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL IS SOUND AND SOLID, BUT MUCH PROGRESS BEYOND THIS STATE OF THE ART IS NEEDED BEFORE NEW PROCESSES WILL BE AVAILABLE.
MORE SPECIFICALLY, THIS WILL REQUIRE A CONSEDERABLE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH, OBVIOUSLY TO BE CONDUCTED ALONG SPECIFIC KEY ROUTES, FOCUSSING MAINLY ON CATALYSTS IMPROVEMENT, BY CHANGING THE SUPPORT ACIDITY AND SHAPE-SELECTIVITY AND STUDYING THE CATALYST ACTIVITION CHEMISTRY.
