SUPPORT FOR TELEMATICS APPLICATIONS COOPERATION WITH THE COMMONWEALTH OF INDEPENDENT STATES

Objective

Cooperation in telematics between the EU and the seven Eastern European CIS countries will be the focus of STACCIS. Full use will be made of the results of EU-sponsored research and development in promoting telematics in education, research and environmental policy. CIS users, developers and sellers will benefit from EU demonstrations and presentations, while educators, researchers, and managers will get practical services and networks training. Telematics opportunities in the CIS will be widely publicised throughout Europe, and a strategy for future cooperation formulated.

This project will build strategic and operational cooperation in telematics between the European Union countries and the seven Eastern European CIS countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. It will promote the use of telematics in educations, research and environmental deciqion-making in these countries making full use of the results of research and application development sponsored by the CEC.

1700 users, developers and vendors of telematics applications in the CIS countries will be directly introduced to EU achievements through demonstrations and presentations. 2500 educators, researchers, and managers in these countries will be trained in the use of telematics services and networks. The capacities of the European CIS countries for information dissemination and user training on telematics will be reinforced, and a mutually beneficial East-West strategy for future technical and commercial cooperation will be formulated. To stimulate and promote these developments, the project will ensure the wide dissemination of information on telematics opportunities in the European CIS countries in both Eastern and Western Europe.
