LNG STORAGE IN UNDERGROUND CAVERNS

Objective

To demonstrate the feasibility of an underground cryogenic storage in limestone for liquified gas.

The project is devided in several phases:

1. Laboratory test in limestone to appreciate the feasibility of the test plant:

2. To design, build and operate a test gallery in limestone. The 5 000 m3 test gallery is to be built in limestone in lavera near marseilles:

3. To interprete the results of the test gallery and conclude on the feasibility of an industrial plant in limestone.

RESULTS:

The test laboratory allowed to include that it is theoretically possible to store lpg and lng in limestone, but a test plant is needed to confirm this conclusion.
