EUROSCOPE improves the efficiency, safety and environmental aspects of urban and regional transport through the use of information, both pre-trip and within-trip. Travellers are provided with timely and accurate information which is used to encourage usage of non-car modes, influence trip timing/substitution, reduce destination search time, as well as leading to better route choice. EUROSCOPE was initiated by the POLIS network, built upon the results and infrastructure produced in the SCOPE project and is substantially enhanced to further develop and demonstrate wider ATT applications. The emphasis was on the development and provision of demonstrators, which have direct application for cities, ports or operators and, which can be interoperable throughout Europe. The cities are most concerned that the project must address user needs and have direct application. EUROSCOPE demonstrates and validates Advanced Transport Telematics systems in user application sites across Europe, thus achieving a sustainable effect on the mobility of individuals. Applications refer to Informed Traveller, Logistic Information and Communication Systems Network Management. A special horizontal work package covers evaluation led by a specialist in evaluation issues ensuring that results are comparable and show the European dimension of the work.
