Objectif
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) user segments, along with local area ground augmentations, will be developed and tested for applications which have the most demanding requirements in terms of accuracy and integrity. Following the analysis of users' requirements, technical solutions will be chosen. A validation plan will be drawn up and the systems evaluated for use in automatic aircraft landing, railway network management and ship manoeuvres in entering narrow channels.
The objective of the project is to develop GNSS 1 (Global Navigation Satellite System) user segments, to assess their capability to meet the most demanding requirements (particularly in terms of accuracy and integrity) and to evaluate the benefits that users can get from the integration of GNSS 1 with data-links. This will be done by developing validation prototypes of GNSS 1 user segments and conducting experiments with users. A specific attention will be paid to the multimodal aspect of GNSS 1 and multimodal solutions will be considered wherever appropriate. The Project will be coordinated by DASSAULT ELECTRONIQUE (Coordinator and in charge of the user segments). DAIMLER BENZ AEROSPACE and ALCATEL ESPACE will take an active role in the project respectively as demonstration and GNSS 1 local augmentation upgrades leaders. The overall MAGNET B project is composed of two steps (I and II) described below.
Step I
The project will start with a first phase intended to update the user requirements and the qualification and operational constraints that would apply to the users devices, leading to the definition of the validation plan. The second phase of the project will aim at selecting the technical solutions to be used for the validation phase. The third phase will be dedicated to the development of the GNSS 1 user segments and local area ground augmentations. These augmentations will be integrated in a GNSS 1 test-bed used to verify the behaviour of the user equipment then installed on the demonstration sites.
Step II
The fourth phase will be dedicated to the demonstrations with a specific emphasis on Cat II/III landings and local Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS). Rail network management and narrow channels entrance will also be experimented.
