COMMUNICATION APPLICATIONS FOR EDUCATION, MULTI-USER OPEN NETWORK DESIGN, INFRASTRUCTURE, AND LOGISTICS

Objective

In this project, European citizens will be provided with applications of information and communication technologies, notably for education and training over wide area networks. Sites at universities and adult training centres will be extended to villages and equipped with multimedia personal computers and video-conferencing facilities. They will also be linked to regional enterprises, schools, administrative services, hospitals, telecentres and other bodies. Suitable user technology will be piloted with applications in healthcare and renewable energy, respectively. Aspects of telework and teletraining will also be examined.

The project will provide European citizens with teleservices for information, communication, education and training over wide area networks. The sites will be established in Germany, United Kingdom, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, and Portugal at universities and at adult training centres and will be extended to villages. The sites will be equipped with multimedia personal computers, computer- and video-conferencing facilities. They will be linked to regional enterprises, schools, administrations, hospitals, associations and to other European telecenters.The technology needed will be developed and tested with two applications in the fields of healthcare and renewable energy. The applications will be tailored to the needs of the user groups. The project will also examine aspects of telework and teletraining
