Project description
Improved mould designs for fabricating flange wheels
The EU-funded INN-PAEK project plans to produce a flange wheel based on a family of thermoplastics called polyaryletherketone. The project will apply the injection moulding process that has been developed, validated and optimised by the AITIIP Technology Center in Spain over the last 25 years. The process has found use in the production of complex parts for automotive, urban furniture and medical applications. Project activities will focus on the simulation of rheological, kinematic and mechanical properties, validation tests of coupons and specimens, and the development of optimisation algorithms for selecting the optimal material formulation. Additive manufacturing technologies will be used to produce complex moulds that will modify the flange wheel's geometry.
