Project description
A connectivity boost for IoT in rural areas
The phrase Internet of Things (IoT) was coined in 1999 to illustrate the potential of RFID tracking technology. Today, IoT (a network of physical objects embedded with sensors, software and other technologies that connect and exchange data with other objects and systems over the internet) is the cornerstone of our digital transformation. However, the societal and economic impact of IoT is not evenly spread. In rural areas, due to unreliable connectivity, costly maintenance and lack of consistent energy supply, IoT deployment is particularly challenging. The REMARKABLE project (supported by the MSCA) will deploy secure, energy efficient, resilient and affordable IoT solutions (pilots will range from wildlife management to virtual tourism and precision farming) across rural areas in Europe and Africa.
