Obiettivo This research project is intended to thoroughly investigate various physical vapour deposition (PVD) techniques, namely Electron Beam Evaporation, Induction Heating Evaporation, Cathodic Arc Ion Plating, and Ion Beam Assisted Deposition, to assess the transferability of the respective process parameters to continuous modes of operation for the coating of steel strip. It is also proposed to define corresponding practical working conditions leading to an optimised combination of metallurgical features and users' properties. High performance anti-corrosion and anti-oxidation protective coatings are obtained by the various PVD techniques on steel substrates. The coatings under investigation are Al and Zn + X systems, where X = Al, Mg, Cr, Ti, Mn.
