Standardisation of pig carcass classification in the eu through improved statistical procedures and new technological developments (EUPIGCLASS)

Objective

The project will improve the standardization efforts concerning pig carcass classification that means improve methodologies to measure, test and monitor the carcass quality throughout the EU. A high level of standardized classification methods including cheap methods will imply a more frequent check of the calibration and make it much easier for new EU members to get the authorization. The accuracy of the present reference and classification methods will be determined. The statistical problems encountered in the application of the EU regulations will be solved resulting in a statistical handbook and investigations will be done to examine if it is possible to develop indirect methods of predicting the lean meat percentage by means of technologically advanced methods.
