RACE: Interworking via optical networks
The European Commission's Directorate-General for Telecommunications, Information Industries and Innovation, DG XIII, makes a call for expressions of interest in the demonstration of interworking via optical networks. As a result of an initiative of the European Parliament a specific action in this field is being undertaken to contribute to preparations for trans-European broadband networks. The Commission intends to call for proposals to support interworking between Centres of Excellence which significantly contribute to the fibre network's connectivity for applications demanding high bandwidths and which demonstrate representative solutions, where possible using the new transfer modes and multi-media services now beginning to emerge.
