ERA-Net PRIOMEDCHILD prepares for Joint Call

Over 50% of the medicines used in children may not have been studied in this age group.

Priority Medicines for Children (PRIOMEDCHILD) is a network of research funding organisations from ten different EU-member states working on the development of research concerning medicines for children. As part of the PRIOMEDCHILD project an Invitational Forum was organised in London. The aim of the Forum was for international stakeholders to get together face to face, to discuss the research needs and opportunities in paediatric medicines research in Europe. The Invitational Forum was the second phase in a priority setting exercise, following extensive on-line questionnaires amongst stakeholders. The Forum was visited by 117 delegates from 19 EU countries. Participants at the Forum included paediatricians, scientists, pharmacists, nurses, as well as representatives from pharmaceutical companies, funding bodies, regulators, parents and carers. The results of the priority setting led to the PRIOMEDCHILD European Research Agenda. In turn the European Research Agenda forms the basis for the topics of the PRIOMEDCHILD trans-national Joint Call on better medicines for children. The PRIOMEDCHILD partners recently determined the focus for the first Joint Call, which is published on the PRIOMEDCHILD website. The launch of the Joint Call is planned late 2009.
