FAHRE Food and Health Research in Europe Expression of Interest
Seven thematic experts will be appointed with the following profiles: 1. Production: Knowledge across countries of research on health issues in food preparation and manufacturing 2. Safety: Knowledge across countries of research on biological and chemical safety in food 3. Consumers: Knowledge across countries of research on industry/public interface for food and health 4. Nutrition: Knowledge across countries of research on nutrition and health 5. Obesity: Knowledge across countries of research on obesity 6. Disease: Knowledge across countries of research on mechanisms and causes of food-related disease 7. Prevention: Knowledge across countries of research on policies and organisational interventions in food and health The experts will need to cover broad research 'areas', and consider the research structures and programmes related to them. They will conduct 3 tasks: 1. Review existing resources The expert will describe the landscape of research in their field from the perspective of stuctures and programmes. This will include information at European level, such as DG Research, European Science Foundation, EC Directorates for Agriculture and Health, and wider activities and initiatives including UN organisations, specialist organisations in both public and industry sectors, and research policy groupings and reports. 2. Review of country reports The expert will review the 33 country reports in relation to their field of expertise and consider how the national structures support their theme. 3. Preparation of 'needs and gaps' Drawing together activities 1 and 2, the experts will provide a report of up to 15 pages for their technical field, with a section determining 'needs and gaps', which will be considered collectively at a day Workshop (10 November 2010) in Amsterdam and in an integrated report.
