The Agenda of the European Parliament for the Session of 16-20 November 1992 includes a number of RTD-related topics: - A Parliamentary report on the Commission's fifth action programme for the environment, set out in a proposed Resolution (ECSC, EEC, Euratom) on the continuation and implementation of a European Community policy and action programme on the environment. This aims to lay down guidelines for environmental policy up until the end of the century concerning natural resources, the impact of energy policies and industry, transport, agriculture, tourism and international cooperation. - A report from the European Parliament's Economic Committee on the compatibility of industrial growth and environmental protection (re. SEC(92) 1986 of 4.11.1992). - Discussion of the Commission's proposed five year action plan to promote the use of 16:9 format and D2 and HD-MAC standards for satellite and cable television, involving a Community budget of ECU 850 million (COM(92) 154 of 5.5.1992 see also SEC (92) 1085 of 29.9.1992). - A report from the Economic Committee on the Commission proposal for Regulations outlining "Declarations of European Interest", made in order to aid completion of trans-European networks in the fields of transport, telecommunications and energy. - A report from the Energy Committee concerning the ALTENER programme for renewable energy projects. This 1993-1997 programme (COM(92) 180 of 20.5.1992) sets a target for renewable energy sources of 8% of total energy use by the year 2005 via increased electricity production plus a 5% market share for bio fuels. - A report from the Energy Committee recommending the approval of a Commission proposal to set up an International Centre for Science and Technology in Moscow. The aim of the proposed centre (COM(92) 192) is to promote the retraining of nuclear scientists in the ex Soviet Union and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
