Colombia confirms the positive trend started with adoption of European DVB-T
In the ICT and the specific sector of the networked and electronic (NEM) technologies, Euro-Colombian cooperation has had a tremendous boost since Colombia adopted the European DVB-T standard for Digital TV in January 2010. There are big expectations that quality of content and inclusion of population in Colombia will increase, thanks to the implementation of the DVB-T format, through the generation of more and better content and interactivity offer. Taking advantage of this promising scenario, the SALA3D project aims to build a cooperation roadmap in the specific field of content aware networks, network aware applications and 3D Media Internet. After one year of intense activities, the preliminary results are now delivered that demonstrate a high technological capacity of the Colombian NEM industry in content aware network, network aware applications, 3D Media internet and immersive and interactive media, especially in the following R&D topics: - Converged and scalable networking for content delivery - Digital Media Delivery Platforms - Open environments for delivery of digital media - Co-operation architectures - Collaborative media creation and delivery scenarios - Collective user experience - Enabling technologies for Future 3D Media Internet - Real time rendering - 3D content representation technologies - 3D augmented worlds -Immersive media capture, representation, encoding and adaptation to user devices - End-to-end diffusion of 3D immersive and interactive media over the Internet - Immersive collaborative environments - Advanced 3D interfaces and 3D ready devices In addition to that, it is important to remark the current positive momentum that government and the industry in Colombia are experiencing: The Colombian government, and in general the industry, has been migrating from Telecommunications sector to the ICT perspective, which opens up for SALA3D the opportunity to transfer the results emerging from its roadmap at government level and influence the shaping of Colombian research agenda in the sector: thanks to the effort of SALA3D project, as well as of different digital content producers, the government is recognising the importance of having content creation in its agenda, and a new terminology has been arising, the Networked Electronic Media Terminology.
