OLED-luminaire wins Salone Satellite Award 2011 in Milan, Italy
During this years Euroluce 2011 and Salone Ufficio show in Milan the Salone Satellite Award with the topic “Designing the future” took place. Therefore a jury composed of internationally important figures in the world of design, architecture and manufacturing selected the three best designs among the projects of 110 young designers in the categories “Lighting and Office”. The Serbian Designer Irena Kilibarda has been totally surprised, as she won the 3. prize with her OLED-luminaire project LAMPED. Her idea of a source of light that is comfortable for both, your eye and mind already came to life in the year 2008. It should become constant, fine light color and intensity, less schades, economical, functional. The result in one word is impressive and presentable: a suitable design of a lamp for a contemporary way of life… LAMPED! LAMPED is a modular, multi-functional, linear, sustainable, long term luminaire. It consits 8-12 movable OLED tiles, which can be moved in any direction with the help of ball joints. The lamp is using OLED lighting tiles, which has been processed with latest technologies by the COMEDD pilot line at Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) are composed of a stack of organic layers, which are connected by electrodes on both sides. These flat area light source, emitting diffuse dazzle free light and do not need further light distribution elements. Irena Kilibarda says about the award: “The Salone Satellite Award 2011 was really unexpected for me. There were 700 designers and 20 schools participating in Salone Satellite, from which about 110 were the award participants. There were great objects shown at the show, and it was an honor for me to be even choosen to participate! My next aim is to find producers for the lamp and to launch it to the market. It feels great when the project you have been working on more than two years, now, gets jurys' attention and recognition. It tells you that you are going in the right direction!” Prof. Karl Leo, Director of the Fraunhofer IPMS emphasizes: „We are very proud of our contribution with the OLED lighting tiles developed at COMEDD to this wonderful success by Ms. Kilibarda. Such creative solutions will pave the way for future applications of the OLED technology in the lighting industry.“ More new designs for OLED lamps should be following this success. Therefore the cooperation between Irena Kilibarda and Fraunhofer IPMS extended and concrete ideas for the next joint project are already implemented.
