The European Parliament's final adoption of the general budget of the European Union for the financial year 1999 is now in the Official Journal. The "Research and Technological Development" section confirms the earlier Decision taken by the European Council on 22 December 1998, which sets out the legal basis for the research objectives of the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration (RTD). In this final adoption, RTD is divided into two sections: - Non-nuclear, which has a total programme allocation of 13,981 million euro; - Nuclear, with a total programme allocation of 979m euro. The same division applies to the total allocation for the Joint Research Centre: - Non-nuclear has a programme allocation of 739m euro; - Nuclear has a programme allocation of 281m euro. The final budget also outlines a breakdown of RTD allocations for each year until 2002: - 1999 - 3,189.2m euro; - 2000 - 3,340.0m euro; - 2001 - 3,650.3m euro; - 2002 - 3,760.5m euro. The total RTD budget for 1999 to 2002 is 13,940m euro.
