"Green" awareness and competences are rapidly gaining importance for steel industry staff

The "Greening Technical VET" project consortium now presented a pilot training module that will shorten the implementation of such industry relevant qualifications in company training and national VET systems.

It took two years of development and testing, and as the conference participants stated on February 20th in Brussels, it was worth the time. Raw Materials, Noise, Energy and Waste: these are the four pillars of the training module that has already been implemented by the steel companies ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe, Tata Steel UK, Arcelor Mittal Poland, and Acciai Speciali Terni. The module was designed for vocational training of industrial mechanics and electronic technicians. "But it's flexible, it can be adapted and used by other professions and industries as well", said project co-ordinator Antonius Schröder (TU Dortmund). The participating companies already indicated they will continue to use the module to develop the green skills of their future trainees. The module, which has been recommended for use and transfer by the "High-level Round Table on the future of the European Steel Industry", has been developed in a Leonardo da Vinci project funded by the European Commission.
