EESD calls for proposals under Key Actions 5 and 6
The European Commission has opened a call for proposals for medium and long-term indirect RTD actions under the specific programme for research, technological development and demonstration on energy, environment and sustainable development (EESD) (1998 to 2002). The call relates to proposals called by a fixed deadline following which evaluation will take place. It takes into account the new approach for the implementation of all programme activities as described in the Work programme updated in October 2000, which needs to be used in conjunction with the version of the EESD: Part B: Energy work programme. The work programme update identifies the priorities for this call and takes into consideration the major priorities of the EU research policy. The concerns of diversity and security of energy supply and the mitigation of the effects of energy supply and use in climate change have been key drivers in shaping a new approach to the implementation of the programme, 'which is expected to expedite and maximise the response of the main goals,' says the Commission. Particular attention is given in response to the Commission's policy on a European research area. The main elements of the new approach are described in the official call text. This call relates to the following activities: - Part 1: Call part identifier: ENERGIE4-T1 includes the following medium to long-term actions (as specified in the work programme update of October 2000): G. fuel cells and hydrogen H. biomass for the production of heat and electricity: Bio energy I. integration of renewable energy sources and distributed generation of energy systems: integration J. rational use of energy: cleaner fuels for transport K. storage of energy: storage L. photovoltaics: PV The deadline for receipt of proposals is 9 February 2001 at 5pm (Brussels local time). - Part 2: Call part identifier: ENERGIE4-G1. Medium to long-term actions covering the entire contents of the latest EESD Part B: energy work programme (March 2000), taking account the strategic priorities laid out on the work programme update of October 2000. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 9 February 2001 at 5pm (Brussels local time). - Part 3: Call part identifier: ENERGIE4-T2. The following medium to long-term actions (as specified in the work programme update: October 2000): G. fuel cells and hydrogen H. biomass for the production of heat and electricity: Bio energy I. integration of renewable energy sources and distributed generation of energy systems: Integration J. rational use of energy: cleaner fuels for transport K. storage of energy: storage L. photovoltaics: PV The deadline for receipt of proposals is 14 December 2001 at 5pm (Brussels local time). - Part 4: Call part identifier: ENERGIE4-G2. Medium to long-term actions covering the entire contents of the latest EESD Part B: energy work programme (March 2000), taking account of the strategic priorities laid put in the work programme update of October 2000. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 14 December 2001 at 5pm (Brussels local time). The total budget available for this call is in the region of 240 million euro of which 115 million euro are for the two parts of the call with deadlines on 15 February 2001 and 125 million euro are for the two parts of the call with deadlines in December 2001. Proposers are reminded that proposals for accompanying measures, training grants, generic activities and SME measures should be submitted in response to the open call for such activities. These proposals should take into account the revised priorities and orientations of the work programme update of October 2000. Also, when submitting a proposal for an RTD project, a demonstration project, a combined project, or a concerted action, proposers may include an application for a bursary for young researchers from developing countries. The guide for proposers contains more information on this scheme.
