Health projects communicated effectively

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) has supported research actions in health during 2007-2013 and there are many that are still running. FP7 has funded countless breakthroughs and notable achievements that have helped improve the lives of European citizens. Unfortunately, some of these significant initiatives failed to gain widespread publicity.

Thanks to the EU-funded HIGHLIGHT (Highlighting EU-funded health research results via TV media and the Internet) project, the visibility of health-related projects was increased in all EU Member States. The project team selected 21 projects with exceptional results and suitable for filming under the FP7 health research programme. Short-length video news releases (VNRs) were produced for each project. These TV clips featured important findings, key innovations and benefits of creating an environment conducive to research excellence amongst European academia, industry, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The VNRs were distributed in English, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish to more than 200 TV programmes as well as key news and broadcasting channels targeting national and local TV stations in all Member States. Edited versions were hosted on the youris.com platform and disseminated to various digital media outlets, together with a series of articles and video interviews to complement the VNRs. A DVD is available that contains all the VNRs, articles and interviews. Ten thousand copies have been distributed at conferences, workshops and other events. HIGHLIGHT raised the visibility for projects and positively impacted the health and well-being of European society. With the broadcast and new media distribution strategies in place, it attracted a global TV audience of 100 million.
