CORDIS will demonstrate new CORDIS services to academics and representatives of research companies in Bulgaria on 29th June 2001 as part of an event organised by the Bulgarian Innovation Relay Centre and ISPO office, with the support of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which will host the event. The aim of the presentation is to facilitate increased participation by Bulgarians in EU funded research. Participants will also be encouraged to involve themselves in discussions on the next framework research programme. Increasing the involvement of scientists and technologists from candidate countries is a prerequisite to making the idea of a European research area a reality. Results from current Bulgarian participation in the Fifth framework programme (FP5) will be presented and the staff from CORDIS will take the opportunity to discover first hand how the CORDIS information service is used and how it can be improved. Participation in FP5 in Bulgaria is coordinated through the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Science. One Bulgarian organisation that has already successfully used CORDIS is IZOT, an IT specialist from the Business Innovation Centre, who found a partner through the CORDIS partners service. Another example is a research team from the Institute for non-organic chemistry, who successfully set up a consortium to pursue a research proposal after submitting it to the GROWTH programme.
